At Sickhouse we invent new programs every other day . Spontanious talks at the bar can lead to a new initiative that sometimes last years. The Overkill Festival itself was invented by two members of our team getting together wanting to play retrogames for a weekend.
So after a few drinks , HertJan & Haaike invented MonsterMovieMondays.
So, from now on , we watch a classic monstermovies every monday. We host a short event from 20.00 to 22.00 every monday.
We feel it is important to look back at the classics and see again why these films have inspired many generations of filmmakers and ultimatly let them to become cultural phenomena.
For our first edititon we showed the movie Gojira ( godzilla ) from 1954. Its the first of 30 or so films with many of them kind of crazy , wild monster via monster movies .
The first movie however is a lot less monster movie and a lot more a depiction of the aftermath horrors of the atomicbomb. We fucked with nature , now nature comes back to fuck us. This is clear to everyone in the movie . Its humanities fault , the constant testing of underwater bombs must have awoken the beast .
We don’t actually see the monster all that much and when it does show up it looks kind of silly.
but of course we are scared of this gigantic firebreathing dinosaur, who would not be BUT i think the wild conclusion of the people to invent even scarier new means of massdestrution to deal with nature is far more scary and as usual will not solve the problem : … Godzilla is still alive and well today with an insane amount of nuclear mutants to fight..
