Friday 24 of March opens the first long term exhibition of Sickhouse and we are very happy to welcome Anne Horel. After discovering her work online during the lockdown in 2020 we collaborated on several occasions playing with Anne online, inviting her to collaborate with other artists on the craziest face filter and supporting her in the creation of an interactive work for The Overkill masquerade, a cadavre exquis created based on the public participation.

Within this new chapter of our year program, we dive into social media platforms as we would in a rainbow version of the swamp, dangerously attractive. For the exhibition “Anne Horel Ctrl IRL” Sickhouse is challenging the artist to take her work out of the screens, out of their social media birthplace into the physical space.

The exhibition is both looking back at the long navigation of Anne through social media and looking into an accelerating future. The online, the virtual, the physical, the tales, the pop culture and the art history live together in her worlds, not afraid of the kitsch, the pop stars and the glitter. Also presenting her latest works and a new installation based on her exploration of Chat GPT and DallE, Anne is playing with humour and fantasy with every tool available online.

K-pop duo Tirikilatops is a collaboration between UK and S.Korean artists and musicians located in the UK. A combination of kimchi beats, pop sensibilities, offbeat lyrics, dayglo colours, hacked keyboards, dada attitudes, forteana and super earworm melodies. Tirikilatops has recently gigged in the UK, South Korea and Japan. The last couple of years saw them becoming UK festival regulars playing Supersonic Festival, Supernormal Festival, Zandari Festival South Korea, Other Worlds Festival, Uk, Sounds from the other City Festival Uk, Beatherder Festival Uk, BBC Introducing live and many more. ----

Anne Horel Ctrl IRL

 is the place where new East Dutch talent gets a stage and gains knowledge of the world of pop music. The daytime program consists of a music conference and in the evening the roof goes off with a showcase festival, open to the public!

More than 40 artists will perform in the city center of Enschede on Saturday 1 April. Musical talents from Overijssel and Gelderland, who have registered and have been selected, will perform throughout the city centre Enschede. Booster is an event organised by ArtEz conservatorium and celebrates its 10th edition this year!

Booster festival

 is a 2018 psychological horror film directed, written and co-edited by Gaspar Noé, Featuring an ensemble cast of 24 actors, led by Sofia Boutella, the plot is set in 1996 and follows a French dance troupe holding a days-long rehearsal in an abandoned school; the final night of rehearsing is a success, but the group's celebratory after-party takes a dark turn when the communal bowl of sangria is spiked with LSD, sending each of the dancers into agitated, confused and psychotic states.

The screening will be introduced by Frank Schonewille, from the film program team.

For its third edition SONIC DIY*, a music program exploring the creation of sound outside of the regular music spectrum, comes back with a beautiful international program. 

MSHR is an art collective that builds and explores sculptural electronic systems. Their practice is a self-transforming entity with its outputs patched into its inputs, expressing its form through interactive installations, virtual environments and live improvisations. MSHR was established in 2011 in Portland, Oregon by 

. Their name is a modular acronym, designed to hold varied ideas over time.

Jasna Veličković is a composer and performer based in Amsterdam. She has written around 70 compositions using a variety of musical instruments ranging from solo instruments to compositions written for orchestra with live electronics. Since 2008 she became interested in various layers of interference between magnetic fields and music. This became her ongoing research whose aim is the creation of tools that facilitate playing on instruments or objects using the transformative acoustic possibilities of the electromagnetic field. This gradually led her to the invention of the new instrument, Velicon a tactile electroacoustic instrument made of magnets and coils.

Acheface is an electronic artist from The Netherlands whose only instrument is a Eurorack 

. His hard and distorted industrial beats have a lot of variation, but remain energetic and danceable. The melancholic melodies are inspired by 80s synthpop and 90s black metal.

The overwhelming complexity of the modular synthesizer produces unexpected musical outcomes, which are hard to attribute entirely to the human or the machine alone.

Logue is a startup that creates a customisable MIDI controller to enhance the digital music production experience. Their innovative controller provides the satisfaction of playing a real instrument while leveraging the power of digital tools. Thanks to their proprietary software, Logue's controller works seamlessly with every instrument on the software, allowing for unlimited creativity and experimentation.

Featuring intuitive screens on the hardware, it is easy to track every knob's function and make adjustments on the fly. Logue's MIDI controller is designed to elevate creativity and make the music production process a breeze.

You know Werewolves. You know Among Us. Keep those in the back of your head. Swamp Surfers is a puzzle game, filled with tasks and riddles! You solve them from either your computer or from the Sickhouse building. Together, the online and offline players become a team, because you will need both the physical space and the website to find the answers to the clues.

BUT WATCH OUT! IT’S THE INTERNET! There’s a troll in the building, and it wants to stop you from finding the solution! Every night, the website goes into eco-mode, and the players in Sickhouse will fall asleep. Be aware, because you might be the troll's next victim!

However, if you’re in time to gather all the clues, you can stop the troll from trollin’! The doxing tool, the secret antidote to the troll, will be presented if you and your online or offline teammates work together really well, and solve the puzzles!

Sickhouse & The FemDem joined forces for females who have the ambition to DJ! On Saturday the 18th of Feb we will help you make your first moves behind the decks. We invited AMPFEMININE collective over for a DJ workshop and afterwards we move to the cinema to watch the collectives documentary 'EQ the Industry’.

Deborah X of AMPFEMININE will help you make your first steps into DJ’ing. It will be a fun experience aimed to get you acquainted with the gear. The workshop is organized for women participants only! And thanks to the support of the generators funds the entrance is for free! We have space for 8 people. 


Is a documentary powered by AMPFEMININE presenting the producers of the collective and their experience in the music industry. The film aims to inspire women and to give men from the sector more knowledge and insight into the barriers women experience within the electronic music scene. Sickhouse will open its door on the 17 of February for a second edition of D&D and TTRPG sessions. We welcome groups of solo players. We are making sure we have a few DM to host open tables. 

INSTRUCTION FOR THE 17-02 : Everyone is welcome, confirmed players and beginners, groups or solo. The important thing is to register. Each table will welcome a maximum of 4 or 5 players. Sickhouse is very proud to be the dutch stop on the EU/UK tour of Tengger! We are very curious to discover this magical sound live.

 is a traveling musical family, made up of Pan-Asian couple, itta and Marqido, who create their brand of psychedelic New-Age drone magic through the use of harmonium, voice, and toy instruments (played by itta) and analogue synths (played by Marqido). The duo originally started out with the moniker “10” but since the birth of their son RAAI (who joins them on tour and often on stage) in 2012, have called themselves  

 (meaning ‘unlimited expanse of sky’ in Mongolian) to mark the expansion of the family. It also means ‘huge sea’ in Hungarian. Travel, as spiritual experience in real environments, and the sound between the space and the audience have been central themes of their works. The family’s yearly pilgrimages inform every aspect of their art.

The film's plot follows a scientific expedition searching for fossils along the Amazon River. When they discover a prehistoric Gill-Man in the legendary Black Lagoon, the explorers capture the mysterious creature, but it breaks free. The Gill-Man returns to kidnap the lovely Kay, fiancée of one in the expedition, with whom it has fallen in love.

This year, we are collaborating with the Architecture Center Twente to engage in a discussion about the future of Enschede.

" Our built environment is constantly changing. The population changes, needs change and we face major challenges such as climate change and loss of biodiversity. The challenges in cities and towns can no longer be tackled sectorally, but must be approached integrally. Here it is important to involve as many individuals, organisations and stakeholders as possible in urban tasks."

 wants to explore these issues by inviting professionals dealing with urban development for an introduction and then looking at the various issues together with involved residents, organizations and stakeholders. What developments are taking place in cities? What does this mean for the city? Urban development is more than bricks and mortar and architecture. It’s about how people use and experience the city.

Sickhouse is opening its doors for the GLOBAL GAME JAM 2023! From Rwanda to the Philippines, from Brazil to Kazakhstan and from Cambodia to Enschede, all over the world people are working at the same time, creating amazing games! In Sickhouse, you can join with your team, or come by yourself! Board games, VR, 2D pixel adventure stories, everything is possible. The cinema, audio-installations, the wood workshop, everything is open for you to let your creativity go wild! On Saturday afternoon, Dave from TKKRLAB will host a workshop about Pico8, and on Sunday we will open our doors to the public, letting them try out your creations. The Overkill festival is sponsoring this event, offering one or two makers of the jam the chance to develop a gaming experience for the festival, if fitting to our ambitions. The chosen maker(s) will be offered a small monthly fee as well as a production budget to realise their project and premiere it at the Overkill festival in November. GLOBAL GAME JAM 2023

In 2023 we are trying new things at Sickhouse :) After hearing about D&D and TTRPG games for many years, we realised that more and more artists are using the game as a tool for story telling within their work, others as expending the possibilities of character building from 3D printing to full on cosplay and drag performances. You can play the game online or on the table making the community and local groups and international players, streamers etc... We are very curious!

So the best way to look at this is to play together. Sickhouse will open its door on the 27 of January for a pilote edition of D&D and TTRPG sessions. After this event we will figure out with the participants what is the best way to support their sessions and on what rhythm.

Everyone is welcome, confirmed players and beginners, groups or solo.

D&D pilot session

Geluidsdrug Twente organises an all electronic jamsession for everybody who loves electronic music gear! We supply the sound system, a mixer for everybody to plug into and a MIDI-clock so everybody is in sync.

This electronic jam session is also the place to talk to like-minded gear heads and exchange ideas about new instruments or the newest releases from big brands.

Bring your favourite synth, drum computer, fx-device, or self-build crazy machine. And bring your own audio cable with a large jack and a midi cable. We will make two different areas. One for everything below 100 BPM and one for above 130 BPM, but anything goes. It's all about fun with electronic music instruments!

We’re watching THE THING from 1982. 

In this cult-classic horror film directed by John Carpenter, a research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims. After the movie, we will play the famous game Weerwolven van Wakkerdam (Werewolves of Millers Hollow), a game where you will either BE a werewolf, or be hunted BY the werewolf. It’s like an analog Among Us! As if this wasn’t enough, there will be music as well, provided by NØAH!

BELLA LUNA is coming to Sickhouse to launch her new music video!Filipino soul singer/songwriter Bella Luna proclaims her sexual autonomy in the official music video for 'Lust & Found' directed by Djannah DZ.The video tells a story of healing from sexual abuse and the journey towards reclaiming ones bodily autonomy. Told through the art of Japanese rope bondage, 'Shibari' is a practice where mutual consent and clear communication are central.As we contribute to the ongoing dialogue around consent, may this be an empowering invitation for us to take charge and explore what it is that we can say ‘YES’ to in life.

Lust & Found: Bella Luna

Creo Collective, a collective for young entrepreneurial artists. Founded by Fee Lemmens
and Demi Nankman in 2021. They started at AKI on the Crossmedia Design course, where
their connection and love for both AKI and Enschede began and continued to grow. Since
studying in Enschede, they have noticed that they miss a place where young artists can unite
and share their knowledge with each other, but also be free to experiment and stand apart
from the past generations. A place for and by young artists. They want to fulfill this need.

' is intended for young people who are interested in art and nightlife, but
find the threshold to go to a museum just too high. By offering Creo After Hours, we hope to
increase awareness among students in the Netherlands. By offering Creo After Hours we
make art accessible and less elitist. With Creo After Hours we want to make art more
accessible among Dutch students. We also want to create an evening where students can
share their curiosity about art with each other.

The exhibition 

 is designed by Creo and filled with work by its members. These range from
first-years to graduates. All types of people and all types of mediums. We want the exhibition
to be a realistic picture of what is going on in art schools and among young people.

Creo: After Hours

WEDNESDAY @ Sickhouse MuSICK because why not!
Presenting OMNI SELASSI (European tour) + HALFBOI , in collab with the Kraaiennest.

Omni Selassi plays on to musical doom. And nothing remains as it was: split and disassembled, symbiotic, androgynous, kaleidoscopically polytoxic. Two drummers meet a singer, a guitar and all kinds of other stuff, knickknacks, shenanigans. Pop, grunge, ritual, punk, never as dogma, always as an attempt at failing. Or: What’s left of rock music in the year 2022 after C.Halfboi takes the idea of conceptual music just a step further. It's a story-driven music project, where each EP is like a season of a TV series. Next to each track is a short audio-drama podcast of about 3-5 minutes, which tells the story behind the music. The chapters of the story are supported by atmospheric music and foil. This concept originated from a love for music and a passion for telling stories.

MuSICK: OMNI SELASSI + HALFBOI

Our multiSINsorial Film program is back this week and we have expanded the event beyond Sickhouse. We will explore the theme of Greed for two nights. 

Thursday, we are partnering with the @rijksmuseumtwentheenschede to bring you a cryptococktail event that looks at the absurd aspects of cryptocurrency and challenges how we use the resources of the world. Come and mine with us in a playful way and earn money to buy drinks at the bar and to use at Sickhouse the following night. 

Friday, the cinema is open again and we hope you're ready to explore all of your senses while watching a film on greed. After the film we will take a critical look at capitalism by playing a game created just for Sickhouse, Life Sized Sickhouse-opoly (monopoly). This game will have lots of twists and turns and be full of Sickhouse fun. Queerdoh 2022

Nkhensani Mkhari were in Enschede. Curator and artist from South Africa, they were the curator of Misava last year as part of The Overkill. Due to the pandemic they could not make it to Enschede then, but last week, we were really happy to meet them irl and to listen to their stories. They curated a screening night “Bona” with video art from artists from the African diaspora. We cooked together meals from these artists' original countries, we talked about home and the spaces that can become home. Friday Sickhouse was a space to share about dreams, history, Europe, artistic empowerment in decolonisation processes, appropriation, responsibility…

'Bona' is a seTswana word meaning look or see. Curated by Nkhensani Mkhari, the exhibition is staged as a multi-sensory cinematic experience pairing video art pieces from African artists and the diaspora with food and drinks from their native cultures. The autochthonous aesthetics embedded in the corpus of time based works featured in this curatorial staging explore concepts and ideas of migration, heritage, space and ultimately 'home'. This curatorial staging asks questions of liminality in a translocated space of becoming within the diaspora. In essence Bona aims to evoke the atmospheric valances of these 'Home' spaces through the visual field and food; exploring the relations between people and rituals that mediate these connections, and how they gather in dispersion.

The curatorial staging features works by DB Amorin, Ainslee Alem Robson (VR) , Maniel Arturo Abrue, Ketumile Malesa, Magolide Collective and Nkhensani Mkhari.The meals are prepared together with Nkhensani Mkhari at Tankstation and are all vegan.Nkhensani Mkhari will be present to guide us through the evening.

Representing Germany, BBB_ is a technologically advanced cross disciplinary music and performance project.It works on the intersection of music, performance, art, design and contemporary philosophy. It was founded by Alla Poppersoni and Alexander Sahm in early 2015. EURTRAMHAUS
We’ve been hearing a lot of raw post-punk with a groove lately, from bands like Idles, Heavy Lungs, Viagra Boys and Squid. Since last summer, Traumhaus has been causing a furore on the stages and festivals in the Netherlands with a remarkably balanced sound: raw but organized. With a groove, even when it’s taken back a notch and with good songs as a basis. This show is not to be missed.

CHARLIE & THE LESBIANS
Sometimes a band name says all there is to say. The singer of Charlie & The Lesbians is called Charlie and his drumming sister Soesja is dating bassist Noortje. Add guitarist Mees in the mix and the result is chunky noise punk of the infectious kind. Not too fast, a bit nihilistic and with vocals that fluctuate between blankly and panicky. Perfect music to scream out your pent-up frustration as you go along rhythmically on the post-punk groove.
