Fem Films - Lesborama & Sally!

    06 March, 2026 18:30

To celebrate and in preparation of the women march of Sunday 8th of March, we are hosting a film night as part of Sickhouse new program around Feminist practices.
For this special week we are showing the short Lesborama (1995) from Nathalie Magnan, french media theorist. The movie is a collages of many film extracts exploring the idea of a lesbian culture.
To follow up we will screen Sally! (2024) from Deborah Craig, a bio docu about Sally Gearhart, important figure of the lesbian feminist movement in the 70’&80’s in the US.

    Lesborama from Nathalie Magnan, 1995, 30min, archive-collage

Made and presented as part of the “Gay Night” for Canal+, this 30 minutes movie is an intent to answer the question “is there a lesbian culture?”. The historical and international dimension seems therefore obvious to answer this question that sounds like an uppercut against the white heteropatriarchal mainstream culture. Series of short movies and news stories extracts (1912 to 1995), punctuated by interviews of lesbian figures over the whole world. Nathalie Magnan has created a visual shock presenting the lesbian culture in all its forms throughout the 20th century: merry appropriation and fierce repackaging of images produced by the mainstream culture.

    Sally! from Deborah Craig, 2024, 1h36 - Biography-Documentary

She spearheaded the 1970s and 80s lesbian feminist movement - making an indelible impact on LGBTQ equality and women's rights. A brilliant and sexy superstar who inspired thousands. So how come you've never heard of Sally Gearhart?
