The video calls that we have integrated in our daily lives, give our relation with our reflected self-image a new dimension. A new function was even added to the screen: that of a mirror. While we became set designers of our own screen and camera spaces, we witnessed how certain playful elements invited themselves in the virtual spaces, and with that, in our relation to the other.
In the exhibit SYNTHETIC IDENTITIES, Sickhouse explores the development of AI, CGI and face filters in the context of intense online communication and how they also become the tools of a new generation that is questioning the nuances of their identities. The artists presented here have reclaimed the medium to create their activist tools with it. From videogames and avatar creators tot online profiles, face filter design and interactive 3D modelling, SYNTHETIC IDENTITIES invites you to experience how your inevitable online presence can become an exciting playground for a personal deep dive to the very fringes of yourself.
Also includes the prologue of Filters, Masks & Identities, a research project commissioned by The Overkill for the next edition of their festival Collective Masquerade, and is co-curated by Aynouk Tan and Manique Hendriks.
